Great news for The Pascack Valley of Bergen County!

The New Jersey Transit announced that it will offer 126 new trains on the Pascack Valley Line starting this fall.                (As written in Community Life by Maggie Fazeli Fard on August 22, 2007)

This is expected to begin on October  28, 2007.  The NJ Transit will offer 16 new weekday trains.  Nine Inboundto Hoboken, and Secaucus, and seven outbound.  Of these one inbound, and two outbound trains will operate in the evening, including a late-night train.  The remainder will operate midday.

New weekend service will include 23 trains operating on Saturdays, and another 23 on Sundays, with 11 inbound to Hoboken and 12 outbound each day.

This is great news for residents of Hillsdale, Park Ridge,Montvale, Westwood,Woodcliff Lake,Oradell.  For Home Sellers this will bring more Buyers to The Pascack Valley, looking to be in the suburbs, and commute to the city.  This will result in more sales bringing the home values up, in a slightly declining market.

This had generated a great deal of controversy due to the fact that there were concerns that the tracks would be used for transporting freight and that the rails would encroach on wetlands, and the Oradell Reservoir.  The New Jersey Transit has assured officials, and residents that the Pascack Vallley Line will not carry freight as the nearby West Shore Railroad Line does because there are few business that require delivery by train.  It is mentioned however that Kuiken Bros. in Emerson is the only stop along the line for once-per-week deliveries.  The effect on  emergency services and other traffic backing up at the intersections where the trains cross remains to be seen.
